new york, new york

as jay-z and alicia keys sing:

new york, concrete jungle where dreams are made of
there’s nothin’ you can’t do
now you’re in new york
these streets will make you feel brand new
big lights will inspire you
let’s hear it for new york, new york, new york

spent a week in nyc for new york design week and icff with design milk and i’m still recovering. but what can i say…

it was beyond amazing.

i love new york.

always have, always will. i remember vividly riding the bus home in 6th grade wishing i was being raised there and my only goal was to live there.

it’s the only place i ever thought i’d live but instead i ended up in savannah, los angeles, and portland. all of which i loved but it still never satisfied my need to live in nyc at some point.

i’ve been there plenty in my life and i have family and friends there, yet somehow i’ve always missed the boat on making it happen. every time i go i’m reminded of it.

of all the places i’ve visited and/or lived, it’s the only place that has ever really felt like home. los angeles did to a point. maybe it just wasn’t the right time. maybe it was because i hadn’t satisfied my nyc need yet. who knows.

all i know is that i still love it and still very much want/need to live there at some point. even for just a short period of time.

what to do?!

i’ll be back with more of my trip… in the meantime, you can check out our coverage of it on design milk right here.
